I wanna be friends with a guy real badly

In my previous post I said I used to have a "crush" on a boy. Well, he’s no longer a dating lovey dovey type crush. He’s a friend crush, and i’m highkey deparate to be friends with him. We'll call him D. The problem is, I see D for an hour in an extracurricular once a week, we sit on other ends of the room, he’s normally REALLY late to the extracurricular and the teacher is sort of strict. I am also really serious about this extracurricular, but my desperation to befriend D is growing daily. Could you give advice as to how I can befriend him??
