Financing Graduate Entry Medicine in England as an Irish Citizen

Hi all, I'm (26M) seeking some advice on my finance options as an Irish resident having just accepted a place in Chester GEM for 2025. I've lived in Ireland all my life and I plan to move to Chester in or before September. From what I know so far, I qualify as a home fees student and may only be able to avail of a tuition-only loan which I can apply for by post. I don't believe I can apply for a maintenance loan from what I've read but I'd love to be wrong about that. I'd be so appreciative of any information or guidance, thank you!

Hi Sean,

Just to clarify you're a Republic of Ireland national? have you had finance from us before at all? Do you hold any qualifications currently?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire, I am, yes. I've never had any finance help before. I'll soon have an undergraduate degree in psychology which was self-funded in Ireland.

Hi Leah, I'll be starting graduate entry medicine.

Thanks. Irish nationals can apply for a Maintenance Loan (ML) if they have been living in the UK for 3 years prior to your course, or if you apply as a Migrant worker, which means you have to be employed throughout your studies in the UK. Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah, thanks so much for this! Do you know where I can find more information on applying as a migrant worker? Specifically I'd like to know the required hours and whether I already need to be working before I can apply?

Hi seandolan,

We can provide that information here. You would need to be working from at least the first day of the academic year. If you are working prior to this it would be beneficial to provide your employment evidence prior to the start of the year so that you have funding in place. We would require a PN1 form, your contract of employment and 3 most recent months bank statements.
