I’m really worried

I tried to do revision all throughout Easter but couldn’t really get anything done, I want to study dentistry for uni but I’ve seen people with all 8-9s and A*s get rejected and I stand no chance if even they can’t get in. I did really bad in my mocks too. Math-4 , Geography-3, business-3, Combines science-65, English language-2, English literature-2. I am confident that I can get above 7 in math and science but I can barely budge a 3 in the rest. Not only that, I only take 7 GCSE’s (combined science counts as 2) as I took BTECS while most other people have at least 10, I’m just really worried I can’t make it into dentistry. Worst part is, people assume I’m smart because I pay attention in school and don’t speak but in reality, my brain isn’t processing anything, it all goes in one ear and out the other.

idk if this will help but what helped me go from a 4 in combined to a 9 was using cognito. the website version is genuinly my lifesaver, all the videos are perfectly put together and i feel like no one explains it better than him. for language, im not really good at creative writing and my vocab isst that good either. so i just mastered one story that i can adapt to any title that they give me in the exam (the story ive been using is how a dress ripped while i put it on in the changing rooms). try think of a more unique story rather than something like "a story about how i spilt coffee in front of evryone". and then i use chatgpt to create very specific descriptions which i use in the exam.
as for literature, im only revising 2 poems back to front for the exams but be very specific with the poems you choose. the two that i picked have every single theme that they could ask for in the exam so ill be able to use one of them when comparing. (for analysis no place is better than chatgpt). as for the other poems, im just learning the context very well and then hoping that if a random poem comes up, hopefully i can just link the poem to its context.
this is all easier said than done so i get it if you're still struggling. i relate with your worry, i keep stressing about uni and sixth form but lets just pray for the best

Hi there,

So of course - you need to study and aim as high as you can to maximize your chances. To reduce putting pressure on yourself - have you considered post graduate entry? A standard dentistry degree is 5-6 years. However, with post graduate entry, the course is only four years. This essentially means, you pick an undergraduate degree (say Biology) and study for three years. You then apply to dentistry having done a biology degree, and study for another 4 years (7 years in total, one year more than what you would have done with a standard dentistry degree). Studying for an extra year is not a bad thing at all! You may also choose to do a year in industry (where you work for a year) during your undergraduate degree. If this is based in dentistry, this can help your application immensely.

Just an alternative route to consider!

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

Hi, I was on the same boat last year and was predicted 4's in both english lang and lit, in science and maths I got 6's, and I also did rs which I got 3 in my mocks. I ended up getting 6 7's and 3 8's (in rs, art, and spanish (which i did in year 10). My advice would be don't cram maths and leave it until last minute because I did 11 hours before the exam. And for science put effort towards all the papers since I believe that paper 2 physics really put my grade down. For english I just crammed everything prior to the week before and for language I created my own story (which got 35/40 marked by my english teacher) and memorised it and then changed the ending depending on the question. Binge watch mr everything english videos and make mindmaps of the eng lit characters. Regarding to comparing yourself with others, check studyplate on tiktok, he got average gcses and is now studying dentistry too. I sometimes also feel down abit due to the fact that my grades aren't the best but there's still A-levels and UCAT to prove your capable in becoming a dentist. Theres people who got all 9's and A's but they didn't get in because they had a bad UCAT. Try your best in GCSES because it doesn't really get any better in A levels, just make sure you have the grades to do the subjects you want for sixth form.
