Arden University online

Heyy, I'm putting Arden as one of my Uni options (my options are UoL, Arden and OU). I'm doing my uni online no matter what (that's why my options all have online choices), and I'm going to do a psychology degree. Can someone share their experiences in Arden's online degree, or in my other uni options? And can you share how your day-to-day life might look like? Thankss Xxx

Hi, I did my MSc Psychology (conversion) at Arden and had a really great time 🙂 I have worked in colleges and universities for over 10 years and I would say that they have the best virtual learning environment I have come across - with easy access to journal articles. I would say that whoever you study with, online learning is easier if you have some experience of studying in higher education already, I had done a Sociology degree and a PGCE beforehand, and the expectations and methods of assessment felt familiar with that experience.

Whoever you choose as a provider, I would check that the course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, this is essential for progression onto becoming a psychologist eventually.

My day to day experience of Arden was logging into the VLE and typically watching a lecture on a Monday night (they are recorded so you don't have to attend 'live'), there were some activities linked to the lecture you could do - I would recommend doing them, and then I worked on the assignment a bit each week - although you can leave this till near the deadline.

As a free bit of advice, for whoever you study with, I strongly recommend a book called 'Statistics and Research Methods in Psychology' by Coolican, it will be invaluable.

Hi, thankyou for responding. May I ask what the social life at Arden is like? Is there group projects, or like a discussion to build connections with peers?

I'm delighted you are considering Arden. It is a difficult question to answer as the social scene will differ between campuses; of which there are ones in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester. I did the course 100% online so I was never actually on site. The people who I spoke too about blended learning said there was small - medium sized classes where it was easy to ask questions, and throw ideas around with the other students. When I did the course there was the option to work on a group project for one of the assignments, but I chose to do it on my own

I'm planning on doing my studies 100% online as well, that's why I was curious to see how the social life is through online communities at Arden

There was definitely group work opportunities, one teacher did something really cool and set up a space on the VLE for us all to chat about student life - I remember uploading some pictures of celebrating my grades for the last few units. There were more social opportunities, but I was teaching full time whilst doing the course and didn't particularly have time to be social so I has the opportunity to work on my own (with excellent support from the tutors)
