Geography/ env science/ marine bio help!

Hi!

I’m currently in year 12 studying a level bio, chem, geo and classics (odd one out ik) and very undecided on what course to take at uni.

I don’t enjoy chem as much as bio, partly taking to not close any doors in the future…

In terms of career prospects and amount of lab work, which course is best?

I’ve wanted to do marine bio for a while, but feel that it’s quite specialised and might limit in the future or I would want something more general, maybe with more human side to it?

Any help much appreciated! xx

I’d say marine biology isnt too specific, quite a few unis offer it and from my experience theres lots of opportunities for marine biologists, especially because of climate change. Also even if you enjoy marine bio the most and apply for a normal biology course, dont be afraid to make most of your personal statement about marine biology because your passion will shrine through. Are you applying to oxbridge? If you aren’t you still have a while to decide tbh.

Hi @g_sinc
There will be quite a lot of courses available to you in this field, due to your A Level options well suiting this area, including geography, environmental sciences, ecology and conservation, biosciences and marine biology.
From my experience, the type and amount of lab work varies between these courses at different universities.
There seems to be a few universities that offer marine biology as a course Search | All results | "marine biology courses" | UCAS | UCAS , so might be worth looking at the different courses on UCAS and seeing which universities are available.
Hope this helps!
