Summer Storage Options in Kingston

Planning to move out of your current accommodation?
Unsure where to store your items?

Having had moved between accommodations each year at university has not always been the most pleasant experience for me! Amidst cleaning the flat, packing and arranging transportation, moving can be a stressful experience. Here is a short write up on the storage and moving options you may want to consider when moving in Kingston!

Self Storage Options
In the scenario you aren't able to bring everything back home with you or don't have any friends left in Kingston whom you can store your boxes with, you may want to consider paying for Self Storage!
Some examples of Self storage companies are Big Yellow Self Storage (located in the North of Kingston, near Norbiton), easyStorage or AnyStorage. Such storage companies quote their prices according to the amount of space (square feet) you require for your items and is great if you need to store large furniture over the summer between moving houses.
In addition to offering self storage units, some storage companies offer Box Storage services where they charge you by the number of boxes/luggages you have instead of renting out a storage unit space. This service is usually more ideal for students with just a couple of large boxes to store over the summer. Storage prices really vary according to the time of year, availability and company, so it is always best to get a direct quote from the company in advance

Moving Options
My first option would always be to ask around and check if any of my family/ friends are able to help drive when moving house! However, if you are unable to get some help from family or friends, my usual go to when moving is Uber! In the case where you are just moving a few large boxes and bags, booking a large vehicle on Uber usually does the trick. Alternatively, if you are moving a large amount of boxes and large items, I would recommend checking out moving companies like AnyVan or hiring a guy with a van. Companies like AnyVan, usually charge according to the number of items you are moving and the price is dependent on availability and timing. I would suggest considering and arranging these things in advance as prices tend to go up closer to the move date! 😉

I hope this helps and feel free to share any tips when moving accommodation! 😁

Ooo this is great thank you! I'm currently looking into student storage for over the summer, here's a site I've been using for a couple years now to compare prices for student storage in case this can help any other students looking for storage ❤️

Nice one, this is really helpful. I’ve tried a few of those places round Kingston myself. Big Yellow’s fine but can get a bit dear if you’re not storing much, and easyStorage’s pickup’s handy but adds on the cost quick. I used Henfield once when I was between flats, found it a bit more relaxed and less of a faff to deal with, but I guess it depends what you’re after. Some people rate the bigger names for convenience, others prefer the smaller spots that feel a bit more personal. Curious what others here have gone with.
