Trying to help my son decide between Endcliffe and steelworks. The fact that steelworks is closer to the diamond and student union, and significantly cheaper, does that outweigh the social aspects for Endcliffe? Is steelworks majority international students. Am I overthinking it?

Endcliffe is way better for the social experience, it's like a half an hour walk to the diamond it's not that bad

Hey,
I am one of the current students at Sheffield. I would say both options are good, it depends what he values more - a bit more time in bed, being in a student-heavy environment surrounded by nature (Endcliffe), or would prefer proximity to the city centre and lectures, and having a bit more money to spend. If you are looking at Endcliffe, I would go for the shared bathroom blocks as they are cheaper and the shared bathroom situation is not normally an issue.
There can be a higher proportion of international students in city-based accommodation, however as the prices increase, it may be that there'll be more of a mix this year.
It is important to note that the first year of accommodation will be by far the most expensive, when you move out into a shared house with friends, you can get some lovely houses for really good prices.
I hope that helps with your decision making!

Endcliffe is a bit of a walk but is more than likely that some of his course mates will be living in endcliffe and can walk to lectures together, making the walk feel shorter. On the way back from uni to Endcliffe, you can pass by a morrisons to do your food shopping.

Staying in Endcliffe you get free access to the gym at ranmoor (5 minute walk away), its not amazing but its got treadmills, rowing machines etc.

There are just 300 shared bathroom rooms available at Endcliffe and Ranmoor. All the rest are ensuites at £8k for the year. I've just booked an ensuite at IQ Fenton for £4,500. The uni has hiked the price of halls right up. The accommodation office told me loads more first years will be staying in the private city halls now because it's so much cheaper. I'll be first year chem eng student.
