Covid vaccination for healthcare student

Hi all, can i ask previous occupational therapy and SLT students were you required to have the covid vaccinations? or were you given a choice? as this is something id refuse and if it means im not allowed to proceed then i would have to withdraw. Thank you

I haven't heard anything about COVID-19 immunisation being a requirement for healthcare students at present. However, I believe qualified healthcare workers are eligible and encouraged to get immunised, especially if they are working in environments which will put them at high risk of contracting COVID-19.

I think this is something you might find more helpful having a discussion about with your course lead. They will likely have more information on the situation.

I think it is a huge shame that you would potentially turn down such valuable careers due to a vaccine. If it is for medical reasons I can understand it (as in you might be at significant risk if you take it) but if it is not then i dont think you should go into either career as both take a huge amount of dedication and you have to want to work for the benefit of others, which may conflict with you own ideologies.

They should have been given the option to use hazmat suits if patient safety was the real reason.
Technically a lot of these jabs weren't vaccines but worked on a slightly different principle.

I'm an audiologist and if I was forced to have it I'd have left work there's no way I'd put my self at risk, I've seen via my patients that have had the vaccines how it's affected them, its affected healthy people in many ways! And it's already proven that it wasn't tested properly either! If I go against my gut instincts il know il regret it, so I'd happily give up the career than lose both my career and my health! The vaccine didn't make anyone invincible the virus can still be spread, I really think it's naive to think this vaccine was anyone's saviour. But that's just my opinion, and I get what angle you're coming from aswell so thank you for sharing your thoughts 😊

Its of course your volition but as a healthcare professional i generally trust statistically significance rather than anecdotal or gut instinct. But yes each to their own and you have to do what feels right.
