For the 7 mark box question did it matter if it was in skeletal or displayed?

Reply 781

I guess i read the amino acid question wrong cuz i just drew the amino acids with different R groups. Because the question said write structures of amino acids.

I thought they did- just couldn’t remember if they asked for a specific type in the question??

Meta director is allowed on ocr mark schemes right?

so did i.. were we not meant to? i thought it was polymerisation between the two amino acids using the Rf values 😭

Was it not 2methly not ethyl for the first question and the second was 6carbon chain for both and not c7?

i got this too

Reply 790

If it was ethyl on a second carbon in the chain it won't be pent it'd be hex so yeah should be methyl

it is 3,5 directing withdrawing group, check online, i believe it was a ch3 with no2, ch3 on the second one so it couldnt, it has to be 3 or 5,

I think you miss understood them, they said they only put 3 directing and not 3,5 directing, they are still correct because 3 and 5 carbon would be the same in mono substitution

Yh the unofficial MS is showing why it is unofficial, so many things are wrong on that document which is fair because how would you remember especially in the multiple choice

But saying 2ethly is just plain wrong, I'm sure someone would've noticed that would end up making a hex and not a pent

Uh I don’t really know what you want me to say, I didn’t make the document, it is wrong but how do you want me to explain a mistake somebody else made… I don’t know why they didn’t notice

I didn't want you to explain, I originally said to the person who shared the link in hope they might be able to find the way to change it

hey guys, i dont know if this was discussed already so sorry for bringing it up if it was discussed. The question where we had to find the Rf value and draw amino acid where we meant to

draw the two amino acids with the R group we found

Or draw liek a peptide bond reaction with the r grouop it self

If it is was the second option can someone expalin how they came to that conclusion bc im pretty sure it asked to draw an amino acid so i just did that

i think i got the first two so 1 and 2, please let me know if im correct

pretty sure it was just the first one as the second one actually only had 2 carbon environments because 2 lines of symmetry

A peptide bond is an amide link right? If it is, it was because in the question they said that the molecule is formed from two amino acids being joined together. So it was a dipeptide. Before I continued with the question I drew out the structure of two amino acids linked together, without knowing that is what I will be asked to do later, because I wanted to better visual it. And then I continued with the question, and discovered the R groups. Does that explain it properly?

Reply 799

so it was just a pepitide bond but no chnages to the R group?
