cation is an electrophile right they literally only ask abt electrophiles and nucleophiles

Yea we won't need to know about cations it's just referred to as an electrophile like you said

im actually praying for one of those functional group testing questions and a 6 marker where u calculate a mass and describe purification... absolutely stunning questions

No the person who made the predictions for paper 1 on the student room forum

guys im so worried im weaker at organic and its so scary to only be able to lose like a max of 15 to guarantee an A

Is there any long wordy questions we need to memorise answers for this paper other than benzene and phenol reactivity and practical based questions ?
I think that’s it tbh but I’m not 100% sure 😭, Ive been focusing on physics a bit more tbh 💀

Reply 85

Aghh so much to memorise 😔

cations are negative right gng or am i getting a U

Cations are positive because the t looks like a +

Do we need to know about ztwiterrion ions? I was doing topic questions and saw this but might've been in the old spec?

Nah it’s in the old spec we don’t need to know it

E/Z you need to have 2 different groups on each C atom of the C=Cdouble bond, as well as cis/trans, with E/Z you apply the CIP priority rules, where the highest Mr group is the priority and if the priority groups are on the same side of the double bond then it’s a Z isomer and if on the different side, it’s an E isomer and with cis/trans it has to be 2 of the same groups, if they are on the same side it is cis and on opposite sides of the double bond it is trans, hope that helps!

thanks that helps! I was doing a model question and they compared the proton number instead of the atomic mass, would it still work the same?

Cis/trans there's a common group on both e.g. H in E/Z thats not the case

Any predictions for the exam tomorrow

My predictions (I don’t know if they are right so pls revise everything):

Most likely we're going to get some sort of question on NMR (maybe a 6 marker bc they come up quite a lot).

A nice synthesis flowchart question (there was one last year)

Some kind of practical question (recrystallisation, purification, melting point determination)

A mechanism question - e.g. nitration of benzene or something like that

Can it be any group (e.g. CH3)or does it have to be H?
