**** guys I've just realised I didn't read the article prompt for Q4. I just assumed we were writing an article on RP and regional accents. My article was a direct response to text B, I called the author of text B out directly of being ignorant of class issues surrounding RP and regional accents. I talked about Giles match guise test and results found by Machoney and Cocks. I may have also mentioned prescriptivism. Can someone please let me know what the prompt was and how far I was off base?

that was literally the prompt you're fine

That sounds right? I also spoke about matched guise

Has anyone else seen how insane the grade boundaries are? If you look at the AQA raw grade boundaries table it says the max marks is 500?? So I don't know where they've got the extra 200 marks from but I figured out percentages and its 78% for just an A. Is it just me or is that crazy high?? That's 234/300 which doesn't sound too bad but like I got 90/100 in my coursework which means I've got to get 144/200 in the papers. That's an error margin of 28 per paper?!?!?! Any other subject and that would be an A*.

Both paper 1 and 2 worth 100 marks each . So then times by 2 gives 200 each for both papers . Add course work which is worth 20% . So course work is worth 100 marks , add paper one 200 marks, and paper two 200 marks + coursework 100 marks gives u 500 marks in total. Paper one and two ur mark out of a 100 gets doubled , so then it would be out of 200 for each paper . Don’t know if I explained it right . .

Write an opinion article on the attitudes to accents. To be fair I wouldn't rule your answer out because all these do provide attitudes to accents plus it really depends on the way you structured it as well

Did you call it text B, or make it clear to the audience what article you were referring to?

Yeah if that’s the case it makes sense (as in each paper is doubled so actually worth 200 marks) but I can’t understand why it’s doubled. I’ve never been told it’s doubled?

Thank you. If I read the prompt I would’ve definitely mentioned prescriptivism and descriptivism I only really talked about attitudes towards RP and regional accents and how that affects the working class and social mobility also accentism in the entertainment industry. My article was in direct response to text B and I called the guy out by name it was also very humorous/ satirical and I’m not sure if that will get me marks for structure but I hope so.

Yeah I called the author of text B out by name in the headline, byline and throughout the text so it should be pretty clear.

i completely forgot the essay structure so honestly my question 1 was basically an opinion article and my opinion article was just a rant about text b 😭 Even in the analysis question i went on a tangent about how paper 1s author was just resentful of the Leith person 😂 i was so sick i couldn’t even understand what i was reading

Guys can someone honestly tell me if I am likely to get a B from this I am panicking!! I need it for uni but I did so bad on the exams. I got 87/100 on my NEA. Sorry for the long message:
Paper 1 question 1 I did intro, 2 paragraphs, no time for 3rd para or a conclusion
Question 2 same as I did for question 1
Question 3 intro and 2 paragraphs only
Question 4 did spoken child language, I did intro, 3 paras and conclusion, used lots of theorists but hardly any examples from the transcript.
Paper 2 question 1 picked second option, intro, 3 paras and conclusion and used examples etc. and maybe 7 theories, went well.
Question 3 I did 2 big paragraphs on discourse and only just started my third one, no conclusion
Question 4 wrote 2 and a half pages and it was not great article maybe 15 marks/30 at least though.
Pls someone help I don’t know if I need to prepare for clearing or not.

100000% possible, its more about content than it is about quantity, if you continuously hit band 5 in your responses I reckon you could even push into an A, its all about the content- mortise conclusion doesn't mean anything and I went through top answers. that were only two paragraphs

i just realised that for the language change question ' evl idea that language change is a process of continual improvation' I could've written about linguistic determinism / reflectionism i.e pinkers euphemism treadmill shows language change/reform could not actually help prejudices etc. i read the question and was sure determinism debate nor pinker could be included but bc determinisn/reflectionism is 'larger lingusitic discourse' could i be barred from the top marks because I didn't include it? 😕 maybe determinism reflectionosm could just be a small point rather than the anchor of the essay. is it okay i didnt incldue them??also i am pretty sure i wrote prejudice wrong in my article...

Honestly, I’ve seen them give out marks for developing an argumentative essay across all 3 questions. It’s worth a fair few marks in Q1/2, it’s very important in the opinion article, not so much in Q3 but it contributes to a good writing style. I’d also let your school know you were feeling sick they should at least get in contact with the exam board and ask their advice. It definitely won’t earn you “official special consideration” but you could get a note attached and sent to the person marking it. If they don’t at least contact the exam board maybe consider going over their heads and GET A DOCTORS NOTE ASAP WHILE YOU’RE STILL SICK!

Damn!! I didnt know this, yeah I have A&E letters and my medication, but for some reason my school doesn't want to apply for special consideration, and if im honest im a bit afraid of confrontation and am hesitant to ask, im also not sure if its serious enough, and whether self discharging from the ER will affect the outcome

If you were in the ER it means it must be quite serious and self discharge or not that IS how they’re going to see it to. I also doubt they would be able to access the records to see if it was self discharge in the first place. In my opinion, it would be really silly to not go over their heads just because you’re afraid of confrontation. Whether or not it will actually go anywhere is irrelevant it’s the possibility that applying for it yourself could mean the difference between grades. At the end of the day once you leave school you’ve left and there is ultimately nothing the teachers or anyone can do if you go over their heads. Hell, I think they’d understand. I’m not too sure of the official processes and how you go about applying for special consideration but I imagine it’s an online process and won’t even get back to your school. There’s bound to be some threads on here about it. All the best and I hope you get some rest/ recovery!
