Hi everyone!

17 Days until Paper 1!
How is everyone feeling? Let's share tips, revision and predictions...

I do Paris Anthology, The Handmaid's Tale and Robert Browning's Anthology.

For Paris, I'm really hoping for Stories are Waiting. THT I'd love a gender or power/hierarchy question. For Browning, I'd be happy with anything really...

i've actually never been more chill about an exam. this point for gcse i was stressed about all the different things it could be but i'm quite confident for the moment! probably since most the questions you get to choose between two (thank you aqa <3)

i'm hoping serena joy comes up as one of the choices for handmaids, she's quite an interesting character who changes throughout the novel. you can also include quite a few different context pointers for her which i feel is limited on some thematic questions (like there's only so much to say on fertility, for example). i'm just not convinced they'll use the last major character when aunt lydia only came up last year. power would be a really good one for a theme since there are multiple interpretations of what power can be! that's been on my list as a good contender.

any sort of advert i feel would be good for paris since you can comment on the visual aids of that as well (and i'm pretty sure an advert is yet to appear too!). i PRAY it's not foreign correspondent or on paris thoughšŸ˜šŸ™

Hi! for Handmaids I have a few predictions:

•

Serena joy aswell!

•

Offreds daughter

•

freedom

•

identity and fear

•

language and control

•

surveillance

•

resistance / rebellion

And thinking for extracts..

•

the wall

•

salvaging/particiution

•

serena joy and offred

Anyone think we could get a whole q on signfiicance of historical notes?
Would be difficult but such an interesting one!

For paris:
I find hemmingway so arrogant in On paris so dont really want to write about him lol but maybe something like personal narratives or gransnet my teacher says.

I do Duffy for poetry which my predictions are first love;nostalgia;mean time; biographer.

For paper 2: streetcar i think may be betrayal (scene 11);desire (scene 5);heightened emotions (scene 3) ; fantasy v reality/illusion (scene11)
Those three scenes only appeared once so maybe this year

Kite runner: most likely second half of the book (first half has appeared 4 years running) so thinking zaman;raymond andrews;soyara;mr fayyaz - those kind of characters. maybe jamilla when they have dinner at the end?
Obviously kite runner is so unpredictable as aqa likes to make up characters to talk about (2021: a made up market trader??) so tips for recastings if you get a character that you dont know.

•

link to afghan stereotypes (humour, loyalty, hospitality, gossip at flea market) bcus that is universal

•

who evers running the country at that point (showari/taliban) - always good to bring in

•

make sure you know the descriptions of main characters - so you can actually reference them

•

and usually in the extract it will give u lots of details that u can write down and include.

You’re probably in luck bcs it’s unlikely that foreign correspondents will come up as it has been in the past.
I’m hoping maybe one of them to be on Mile by mile as it’s really interesting or maybe Paris city guide.
It would be so good if power was a theme for hmt.
I think the worst it could be would be Rita or Cora

i actually really like foreign correspondent idk why... i'd love a transcript this year though

I do Gatsby on Paper 2, the reconstruction... honestly that's one that you can never expect because they can literally just give you nonexisting characters, a partygoer probably wouldn't be a bad shout, or maybe the funeral giver? Not sure if they've covered Gatsby's funeral yet, I know they've done his dad.

Handmaid's Tale I unfortunately cannot choose character questions i just can't, always thematic for me lol... even if the extract is poor I just can't do characters I struggle with a line of argument

the only concern with foreign correspondent is that last year had two texts that had already come up before and since f.c is like 15 pages, it very well could be another extract. really hoping not though!!

i've been discussing whether or not rita and cora could come up, i feel like they're too minor, but i would be picking the other question asap if they did. there's just not enough to say for 35 marks!

one of my guesses would be potentially owl eyes. he hasn't come up yet and since he has enough text in the library scene and then is one of the only ones to attend gatsby's funeral, he could be a contender. they did already cover the funeral with his dad though and that was within the last 4 cycles, but who knows?

i'm hoping it's not an account from the perspective of one of the main characters though, i feel like that's a lot harder than some random character who has three lines.

thematic is smm better cus you can easily get in historical notes, unreliable homodiegetic narration and all those nuanced overarching themes like ideological idotrination. Also i find context so hard to get in for characters

Facts. Imagine if we get told to do something from Tom's point of view... oh, lord, my guess is we might get told to do Wilson's point of view hopefully in this last moments before killing Gatsby I'm manifesting. plsplsplspls

I don't do Dracula but i do both Paris and Carol Ann Duffy. I have been predicted a c but have only been getting D's so I'm not happy. How are you doing in your studies? Has your teacher given you any predictions?

Same I’m predicted a C but I’m not too hopeful as I’ve been getting D’s for the past 2 years literally until recently I managed to get a C in the last mock😭

praying for patriarchy to come up too. i did a practice question on patriarchal power and i really liked the question. i suck at language methods so i'm praying for a mircacle

i dont think they would as they're very niche characters (who even are they lol)

Reply 19

predictions:
paris: guidebook, monologue, gransnet or the long azz letters
handmaids: patriarchy (praying), surveillance, language as power
poetry (heaney): personal helicon, follower or bogland (no. please no. i will perish.)

i feel like poetry will be harder for those who prefer the historical ones as i really dont think they will come up this year and if they dont then i may be cooked
