Hi everyone, thought I would make an exam chat for A Level Law paper 1 2025. How is everyone feeling? What do you think will come up and what are your best revision tips?

I’m hoping loss of control, gross negligence manslaughter and maybe duress and automatism/insanity will come up
I mainly do flashcards to revise

I agree, GNM didn't come up last year so I think it's likely to come up this year. Same with duress and insanity/automatism. I think Attempts could possibly come up too, as it was in 2021 but hasn't been in an exam since. I could be wrong though.

What do you think for Q9? Fault hasn't come up for 2 years sooo I'm hoping it does this year

This is now the official Exam Chat for this Law exam and it's in our Law Exams forum. How are you finding the revision?

I agree with the GNM, I think murder and loss of control could come up too. They might do a non fatal like ABH or GBH and a duress defence or insanity/automatism.
Based on the patterns it'll probably be justice, fault wouldn't be too bad.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what the non substantive 5 marker and the 7 marker in Q11 could be?

Last year for question 5 I think it was the role of magistrates or judges so maybe it’ll be on judicial precedent or statutory interpretation not too sure though

I think in my last post I said justice, would be likely, but I confused the order they have done them. Fault seems to follow Correspondence, so it should be this year's question. Last year they did Correspondence and Fair labelling. I'd say it is likely, but the only way to be prepared is to know both.

I think Q6 will be statutory Interpretation, Q7 will be coincidence rule, Q8 will be non-fatal or theft, Q9 will be either harm, fault, no retrospective liability or correspondence with fair labelling, Q10 GNM, Murder, LOC and possibly Thin Skull and Q11 Theft, Robbery, OR non-fatal offences (OAPA 1861, Assault, Battery etc) with a defence and Role of solicitor as the ELS in that

Last year Q6 was roles of magistrates and in 2023 it was role of barrister - Statutory Interpretation last time appeared in 2021 since then we have had Legal Personnel, The judiciary and Judicial Precedent , Q7 was attempt and in 2023 it was battery,Q8 was DR so we can most likely cross that off for this years paper and 2023 was Theft , Q9 was Correspondence with Maximum certainty and 2023 was Justice - no retrospective liability has never appeared before and I think harm as well hasn't. Q10 was UAM (Assault), Theft, Thin Skull, and Intoxication - Theft tends to always be in the paper as a 30 marker but rarely be a 10 marker and in 2023 it was GNM, Murder, LOC, Thin Skull . Q11 was Transferred Malice, Battery, Self Defence, OAPA 1861 S.18 + s.20 and Legal advice and 2023 it was Assault, s18 and s20, Intoxication with Judicial precedent

in my opinion a 30 marker on theft with robbery and defence of duress of circumstances(never been asked as any type of question ever) is screaming down our necks lol
then murder didnt come up last year and Gnm is heavily due so maybe the other 30 marker could be murder gnm and loss of control and maybe they throw in an assault/battery in there
Like the topics we should all be high prioritising are
Murder/Loss of control
Theft
Duress / other defences if you have the time briefly go through all of them as they is always at least 3 defences per paper
Gross Negligence Manslaughter
but dont neglect non fatals either the reason im saying theyre not as high priority as last year there was a full 30 marker just on non fatals so the max it will come up this year is for 10 marks of the paper
if you can learn these 4 and some ELS u can guarantee yourselves a C grade at a minimum
Then for the defences duress is so likely either as a 10 marker of part of a 30 most likely duress of circumstance
then mischief golden literal rule/roles of solicitors/Jurys/funding for the 15 marks of ELS but Sentencing/JP could come too
Then for the locka its more likely to be on men's rea or a defence as AR has come 3 times since 2021 as a locka
they also love giving a full 10 marker on defence so know all ur defences well as theyre the harder ones
for the essay fault and justice should be priority, but also for the theories it that comes up harm/autonomy are overdue
when we are answering the paper we should answer the 30's first and work our way backwards so we dont run out of time
Sorry for the LONG yap but my teacher created a massive topic tracker so i know whats heavily overdue
last year they did a massive non fatal 30 marker so its unlikely this year that there will be too much on non fatals
For the next 4 days just go through murder. theft robbery gnm especially these 4 HEAVILY DUE, and then with the time u have left after these do els, defences, fault justice
take ur time with the 30's essay plan before answering and good luck guys

This is so helpful, thank you!!

it is on the spec, but there’s not much too it, it could be asked in any question even in a 30 marker

Reply 18

If necessity as a defence comes up then what sort of question should we expect?

Reply 19

Guys yk for duress do we need to know duress by necessity or is it just threats and circumstances cuz the spec doesn’t say necessity so I’m confused
