I just read the questions first and then read the extract. I think it's better than reading the extract first because often the questions will ask for a specific line, e.g. in the 2019 paper, Q12 is "Show that the equation of the line in Fig. C2 is ry = hx + hr, as given in line 24." If you're worried about it, remember the whole comprehension section is only worth 15 marks.

Some questions don't even require the extract - Q11a in 2023 asked for the sum of the first five numbers in the sequence r^2.

Here's TLMaths talking about it (it's from the old spec, but still sort of relevant)

the comprehension is unique to every year. I hope that paper 3 isn't anything like the 2023 Paper 3 tho

Are we allowed to write outside the lines if we just run out of space for this paper?

You're supposed to ask the invigilator for more paper - if you write outside the space given, it might not get marked because it might not get scanned in

As in just finishing up a sentence with a couple of words under the lined box, doesn’t seem worth going to the additional space for

Yeah, I think you still need to use extra paper - I personally wouldn't want to risk losing marks because it didn't get scanned in properly. I've had to use the back for an extra one or two lines of working out in Paper 1

Yeah probably. I think when they scan it in, only what's inside the box is scanned, not anything outside. Using extra paper may be worthwhile just to be on the safe side, even if it's just one line or so
