Hi, can someone pls confirm whether we need to include a translation for whatever piece of style we do in the 4 markers and 8 markers? I was taught we have to include a lil translation of the text, so for example if I pick out 'nobilem feminam' for a style point I also have to include the translation 'noble woman'? I js tried checking the markscheme and I don't think a translation is needed but I'm not too sure.

Hiya. Yeah it's 100 percent needed to demonstrate you understand the words you've picked out (even if you're just pointing out alliteration) . Not sure if you're doing classical greek too but it's pretty much the same for that one too 😀. I'd put the translation of the words in brackets after you've written them like "Latin text" (translation) emphasises xyz

This is so real
I feel like I'm finally understanding my set text translation and getting it in my head now.. perhaps I won't be cooked by the time I take the exam (I am probably gonna still lower the grade boundaries 🙃)

I did Messalina and Pliny. It was a heaven-sent paper for me. I only recall 1 mark being lost, but the rest was lovely. The 10 marker was amazing to have, the 8 marker had so many style points, and the translation was brilliant. So, yh, I am really happy, and hopefully this carries onto Verse.

I also did Messalina and Pliny. I was so happy that the 10 marker was on Messalina (I have no idea about Pliny). Other 1 and 2 markers are quite easy and straightforward tbh but the grade boundaries are always high. I do lit and cult but hope everything goes well!

Real, I was so happy for the 8 marker because I didn't really go over style that much except for the first few sections of Messalina so I was very happy about it!! I think lots of people found it good, but I also know some from my class who didn't find it that good but hoping Verse is also good as well

Yh, but you did know that Pliny would be no way the 10 marker. You need enough content to write about. The translation of Pliny was also straightfrward.

Yes, the translation for Pliny was good. I actually went over that translation over the exact section with some classmates before the exam and we were all talking about how lucky we were with how it came up on the exam!! 😁

did people write "discidium" or "discidiumne" (or something else) for the word choice and translation question?

I did revise Pliny for 10 marker just in case they are being mean. Our teacher made up Pliny 10 markers to prepare us so it wasn’t too bad.
