Sourcing art supplies in Kingston!

If you’re studying any course at KSA then chances are you’re going to have to source materials for your course. Ordering online can be convenient but stressful in a time crunch and super expensive if you’re not careful. I’ve compiled a couple of different options for places to source materials from that are close by to help!

First up is potentially the most obvious but really is great and that’s the KSA Art shop. With loads of equipment and materials available for purchase, the art shop isn’t only conveniently located but a lot cheaper than buying from other places (occasionally this isn’t the case so also make sure you look around) .They have an instagram that can keep you updated and an online catalogue available through 'My Kingston' so you can check if they have what you need before you even get there! The art shop is located in the main entrance of Knights Park and the staff are super friendly and helpful! The art shop is open 10-4 on all uni days!

If the art shop doesn’t quite have what you’re after or you’re in need of something over the weekend when it isn’t open, then there are definitely a couple of other places in Kingston to try. For art materials such as paints, pencils, clay and paper (just to list a few) then I’d recommend trying Cass Art and Pullingers. Both are located in town centre and have a massive range of materials. I personally prefer Pullingers as I find them to be cheaper but both are great. And if you’re after materials or ribbons or (as I know a lot of students that use it and it's more expensive to buy from uni) calico, then give Fabric Land a go. With lots of cheap fabrics to choose from it’s a great place to pick up any fabric bits you might need.

Another thing that might seem obvious but can help make your money go a little bit further is using your student discount! This isn’t available at the KSA Artshop as everything is already priced with us students in mind, but the three other shops mentioned do offer discount. If you do have to buy online then definitely do check Student Beans and UNiDAYS as well as any other offers they may have. The savings may seem small but if you have to buy materials regularly then these savings will add up!

Where’s your favourite place to get materials from?
