Academic Futures Scholarships 2025

As May is fast approaching, here is a thread to discuss Academic Futures Scholarships (Black Academic, Care-Experienced and Refugee). Hopefully this community can help others and reduce some of the anxiety 😊 Please feel free to share any Oxford correspondence, nominations, rejections, award allocations.

When do we ideally hear back if successful?

Okay. Fingers crossed.

Hi guys, do you think that applying for this scholarship automatically makes you ineligible for other university scholarships? At least for the Refugee stream we had to fill in a form, I don't know about others.

No, each funding body makes its own decisions so the funding you apply for can't really put you at a disadvantage.

Does anyone know how competitive the care-experienced scholarship is? This is my last hope at getting funding, otherwise I cannot attend Oxford.

Thank you very much for answering! Anyway, I think it's one of my only chances, haha. I wonder about the acceptance rate in the Refugee stream

I honestly have no idea and there seems to be nothing available statistics wise online either. All I can say is to be hopeful 🙂 Have you received an email confirming that you're being considered?

Thank you for answering ! They emailed asking me to apply and I sent them evidence of my care status / submitted the application form so definitely being considered😊. It’s an agonizing wait:’)

You're not alone! I'm a candidate for the black academic futures scholarship and these next few weeks are going to feel like years... honestly the most anxiety inducing experience of my life! But still, let's be hopeful 🙂 keep us posted, we're rooting for you!

Were you asked to submit any proof? Such as refugee/care status, etc?

I was asked to, yes, but that was because my circumstances were slightly different 🙂

hey guys, does anyone know the details of how they allocate the (black) academic futures scholarship? i have an offer (non-academic) for something else that i have to confirm by the 15th of may, but i'd rather go to oxford lol. the problem is my going to oxford is entirely dependent on whether i get this scholarship (which we hear back from at the end of may 😣). i'm trying to way up how likely it is i'd get this scholarship so i can respond to my other offer 😩

Are you able to confirm the other and back out afterwards?, if you are I’d do that, I hope you get the academic futures scholarship. I’d also try to explain your situation to the other opportunity for an extension. In terms of the black academic futures scholarship I saw somewhere that it’s ~30 scholarships that are awarded based on academic merit and potential. I’m not sure how many are being considered as it varies every year but with other positive action schemes introduced to help black students enter study at Oxford, it is competitive :frown:

Hiya, I’m not sure but I’ve been in a similar position so I dounderstand how you feel! I’ve had to pay a non refundable£500 deposit to Kings for a different MSc. as I can’t study atOxford without the care-experienced scholarship (deadlinefor deposit was before this outcome). All my hopes are onthis scholarship for being able to attend Oxford but I didn’twant to take the risk of losing out on two MSc’s. Perhaps youcan ring to ask for an extension beyond 15th May? That’s all Ican suggest.

in theory i can, but they said it may affect any future applications i submit with them (aka potentially blacklisted 😶), i guess it wouldn't matter as much if i can go to oxford? thanks for the info! 30 is quite low lol, i'm a bit doubtful. i wonder how they measure potential. best of luck to you guys !
