A Level Chemisty Help

Hey, I’m in Year 12 doing AQA Chemistry. I’m really struggling with it as I genuinely just don’t understand it. I’m worried it’s going to bring down my grades/ potential as I’m doing well in my other subjects.

I’m especially struggling with mechanisms as I just don’t know how to use them, and I’ve been doing lots of PPQs but I keep seeing new content that I can’t find in my class book or text book. I just did a test that I tried hard for and got a C, but earlier in the year I was getting As.

Does anyone have any advice/ specific websites to explain things easier please?

Soz for the long post- am panicking a bit if you can’t tell haha

Thanks!

AQA likes to create questions with random mechanisms that people aren’t familiar with. The rule I always stick with is that there’s going to be a curly arrow from something negatively charged to something positively charged. For me past paper questions aren’t helpful if I don’t know the actual mechanism first so try to make a big A3 sheet of all the mechanisms you’ve learned and then you can apply the basic theory of each mechanism (because the process is always the same for each type) to any question. Also if you’re in year 12 you won’t have learned all of the mechanisms yet so that might be why you’re not recognising questions.

Thank you sm for replying!!!

I’ll definitely make a sheet of all the mechanisms I know. That sounds very helpful. Do you have any revision website recommendations?

Understanding the mechanisms is extremely important, and this is what AQA tests with their 'application style' questions. Make sure you understand where each arrow comes from, where it goes and why.
