Newcastle v Sheffield for med (A100)

Hiya, I am really struggling on picking between Newcastle and Sheffield to firm for med (I’ve put Bristol as my insurance), I love both the cities and the courses are great too, I just need some advice on which to firm! If anyone could tell me there experiences studying or living in either Newcastle or Sheffield that would be amazing!! Thank you!

Have you decided? If so which uni did you pick, Im really struggling on picking between newcastle and liverpool lol, i went to the newcastle offer holder day and it seemed really nice, the campus is beautiful and their placements were interesting in how i think you stay in one zone for the whole year, so youd do all your teaching and everything at the hospital rather than coming back to the uni, ( I may be wrong take that with a grain of salt). But for sheffield i have no clue im sorry

I ended up picking newcastle!! I’ve put Bristol as my insurance. Liverpool and ncl both are great. What I did when picking was make a massive pros and cons list for both

These are the reasons I picked ncl, I really like how it’s Case based with a mix of anatomy and clinical skills, and also like you said the campus is lovely and so is the accommodation. I was a bit unsure about the spread out placements at first but I’ve had a good think about it and how it gives you a range of experience when training so I’ve grown to like it. Also the city is just amazing everything is so walkable, there’s so much to do, the beach is a tram journey away. I don’t really know much about Liverpool but I hope this helps !!

Okay final one, I have a friend who goes to ncl she is a second year medic and absolutely loves it, she still has free time aswell as a good amount of contact time. She says all her teachers etc are so friendly and helpful, and also how well clinical skills are taught, she always says ncl is big on good bedside manner. There’s also a few days placements in hospitals and GP etc which will introduce you to it early before the big placements in 3,4,5. She’s currently in a second year house with a few other medics and absolutely loves the atmosphere that you’ve got people around you on the same course (obviously you might not have a house with medics depends on you etc) and her house is about a 25 minute walk to campus, but I’ve done it a few times and it’s not bad at all because Newcastle isn’t very hilly it’s a really lovely walk, and again there’s so much to do, I feel like you can never be bored. Sorry that’s a lot, I hope it helps!! And lmk which one you end up picking!!
