The Student Room Group

University

I’ve applied to uni through UCAS and gotten offers and i’ve put through a firm and an insurance, i’ve applied for student finance and i’m looking at accommodation. but i’m leaning towards not going to uni straight after a levels. i don’t know if i want to defer my offers for a year (but when applying i didn’t select that i wanted to defer my offer). does anyone know the process of what happens if i don’t want to go/ how to deny my firm even if i get in after results day and how id go about re applying a year or a few years later?

To ask for a deferral to 2026 entry, just email both F&I Unis and ask - its usually very straightforward at this stage but may be more difficult later.

Even having done this, you can still withdraw from the whole thing on/after Results Day if you want to.
Reapplying after a gap-year, or even several, is possible but just remember that many Unis require qualifications to be within a specific timeframe, typically within the 3 years before applying..

Hi there!

I would definitely pop an email over to your universities admissions team and ask whether you can defer. This means you have the year to make up your mind with the safety of knowing you have a place during the September if you want it!

I hope this helps!
