Med School Rejections & Looking for Alternative Paths

Hi everyone,

My original goal was medicine, with the long-term aim of specialising in endocrinology. However, I didn't receive any medical school interview offers this cycle. From what I can tell my GCSEs (8887776664) and UCAT score (2700) were the main issues, though my predicted grades at A level are A*AA. Bio Chem Maths.

Through lack of foresight, I applied for a backup course within a field totally unrelated to medicine and something that I've lost my passion for.

I'm still really drawn to the field of endocrinology, but it requires a medical degree, something I can't get at this point. I've explored related areas: Epigenetics and genetic engineering also look interesting, but I'm unsure about the career prospects and employability in these fields.

I'm also wondering if it's too late to consider applying for Pharmacy programs for this year or if that would even be a suitable pivot given my interests.

Any advice or insights on alternative routes into related scientific/medical fields, or thoughts on the feasibility of Pharmacy at this point, would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks for reading, and for the advice in advance.

Plenty of people get no offers the first time - many people take a gap year and reapply - maybe worth considering. Then you can apply to places that favour work experience eg sunderland, keele, who put less emphasis on UCAT. Applying strategically is the key

Take a gap year, work in healthcare in the meantime, learn to drive/hit the gym and reapply in a year or two.

Mature students with actual real world work history in healthcare are looked on favourably because they hit hard academically and already know how healthcare works and have good patient-facing skills.

A couple of solid years working as a HCA and many Universities will be less interested in your GCSEs.
