Example university timetable

Hi, I’ve confirmed my place at Aberystwyth university to study film and drama as a joint honours. I’m currently wondering if there are any students on the same course here at Aberystwyth that can tell me what a weekly timetable looks like. This is so I could plan in the future when I could travel back home and not miss any lectures and seminars.

The most anyone can say at this point would be general information -- for example, X hours of lectures, Y hours of seminars, Z hours of workshops per week.

You probably won't know until maybe a week before you start exactly when specific sessions are timetabled. And bear in mind that the second term's timetable will look different to the timetable for the first term. And things will be different again in your second year, and in your third year.

And this applies to all universities, not just Aberystwyth.

Hi Izzy,
I remember before i started university at an open day I was shown an example timetable for my course, this wasn't my exact one but gave an idea of the amount of hours and general structure of the course beforehand! - Modules' specific times aren't always clear until your about to start as a lot of the time its dependent on the room needed & amount of people taking the class, which cant always be worked out in advance, especially with modules you arent required to take for your specific course - I'd recommend reaching out to your university as they will have the most up-to-date info on this

Hope this helps!

Hi @izzyains17 , like the others have mentioned, the faculty should send you a course specific timetable during your first few weeks of uni! If you are keen you can try emailing the faculty to find out more. Alternatively, you can check out the Term Dates of the uni to get a general sense of when the semester ends and when the holidays are 🙂 I hope this helps.

Hey,

Congratulations on confirming your place to study Film and Drama!

My name is Mostafa, I'm a current student and ambassador for the university. I unfortunately do not do your course so won't be able to share specific details.

Looking at the timetables for the core modules for your course, I can see that there's a lecture slot weekly per module as well as a seminar slot. Lectures are sessions that introduce key theoretical concepts and are usually scheduled in blocks of 1-2 hours (depending on the module), these sessions will also typically have everyone who is registered on the module. Seminars are smaller, discussion-based classes that delve deeper into lecture topics. Some modules may also have Practical / Workshop sessions which are hands-on sessions focusing on performance, production, and technical skills. Once you've arrived at Aberystwyth and completed your registration, you should have your timetable on your Student Record relatively quickly.

If it helps, you can check the Dates of Term page on our website to find out teaching and vacation periods, you can find it here: https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/about-us/dates-of-term/

All timetabled teaching activities begin at ten minutes past the hour throughout the day. This is intended to allow students time for the interchange between teaching activities.

I hope this helps! If you do have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact your department at [email protected] - they'd be happy to help!

All the best,
Mostafa
