hey, how is everyone feeling? does anyone think types of DOS attack will show up again as it was poorly answered last year?

Sending you lots of luck for tomorrow!

Good luck today everyone! Make sure to remember the steps of the fetch execute cycle, how to do floating point number (if it's negative the sign bit is 1), and how modularity aids efficiency and maintainability. These are topics I believe are essentially guaranteed to show up as they show up every year.

Fetch Execute Cycle
The processor sets up the address bus with the required address.
The processor activates the read line on the control bus.
The instruction is fetched and transferred from memory to the processor by the data bus.
The instruction in the instruction register is decoded and executed.

Efficiency
Local variables only need to be held in memory during execution of the subroutine
Modules can be reused (which reduces duplicate code)

Maintainability
Individual modules can be tested
Easier to locate errors
Different programmers can work on different modules at the same time
Subroutines can be edited without affecting local variables of the same name in other subroutines

I recommend bringing a water bottle as 2 hours is quite long. Don't stress too much and read the questions carefully. Again, good luck! I'm sure everyone here will do extremely well, the hard work will pay off.

i hope we dont get a trace table question. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Reply 7

and i am 90% sure that we would get a resource starvation Dos attack this time

Reply 8

and i am sure we would either get Number of cores or Clock speed

Reply 9

Sending you all the luck everyone! Don’t forget to come back here to chat after the exam and see how you did - you’ve got this 💪

Reply 10

Digital certificates and signatures might come up. Good luck 🤞

Reply 11

What did everyone think of that? I thought they really changed up the question style. Previously past papers were fairly predictable however this felt like the question styles were quite different

Reply 12

Yeah the binary question was quite different at the start same with the one about fetch excute cycle

Reply 13

Where is my favorite question, man? 😭. but the exam was very easy tbh

I was a bit confused why it said why doesn’t the code produce the correct outcome. I said it’s because of no letters are replaced, it returns the new array, not the original one. Also web had some wierd questions, like the screen size one and the last one

Yeah for the code one I also had no idea, I thought it's cuz the array newList only held 2 values and not 3 like the og list?

Okay grade boundaries are falling through the floor this year

Yeah it was initialising a smaller array than needed

What about the follow up question where it asked what more you would add to the code? I think I just yapped for that one
