Should I insure Durham or Birmingham for CS?

I've gotten Bristol, Durham and Birmingham as offers for Computer Science. I intend on firming Bristol. Bristol and Durham have identical grade requirements, whilst Birmingham is slightly lower, which means I have to put either Durham or Birmingham as my insurance choice. My school told me that your insurance choice should be lower (not the same) in grade requirements to your firm, which implies that I should insure Birmingham rather than Durham, but I'm not sure about doing this because I prefer Durham over Birmingham as a university.

What should I do pls help ;-;

Whilst it is advisable, you don't have to. If you prefer Durham then insure it.

It would not make sense because if you miss your grades for Bristol then you probably miss the Durham offer unless they are lenient with your application.

To save yourself any risk, Birmingham is a better option based on grades.

Which course do you prefer? Look at the optional units for all years of each course and think about which you would choose if you went there. Does either course have any sort of work experience or placement - this adds heaps to your graduate CV. Birmingham is a far more interesting city than Durham - and it will be cheaper than Durham. Finally, what is your Plan B in case your grades mean you lost both Bristol and Durham on Results Day.

Note Durham has a track record of treating insurance applicants and applicants with grades below their offer particularly badly (leaving them with no decision for up to a week after results preventing them from using clearing - and then rejecting them). They’re a poor choice of insurance if they require the same grades as your firm.

If you wouldn’t be happy going to Birmingham then you might be better off with no insurance choice so that you are placed straight into clearing if Bristol don’t accept you
