Hi Shankie,

I would just like to congratulate you on your position on the Access program, I have worked quite a bit on the Access program and would just like to reassure you that not knowing anyone will not negatively impact you.

Many of the students I have worked with over the years have been on their own and it has encouraged them to make new friends and they have all said it was the best thing they did, so please do not feel disheartened about not knowing anyone. Most people wont know anyone and that is what works so well, new friendships flourish and it gets you to step outside of your comfort zone and grow as a person.

It will be amazing and I am excited for you, enjoy it!❣️

Bit of a random one, but just wondering—would it be okay to go for a jog during the residential? It’s part of my daily routine and I don’t wanna fall out of the habit!

Hi,

Unfortunately from what I am aware of, we would not be able to accommodate this as students would have to be accompanied outside of the routine activities which have been planned. If a staff member could come with you then I would have said maybe, however, we do not have the spare staff to do this really. I am really sorry about that, however, let me assure you your days will be super busy and full of lots of different activities, so you will be so busy doing other things you will either be enjoying yourself doing other activities, or too tired to be running, as they are long days!

I am super excited for you to go on residential and sorry I can not offer you a different answer, however, please do not let this worry you, as I think you will love it still.

I hope this helped, let me know if you have any further questions

OMG, I did the Access programme (current year 13) and I Loved it even though I was on my own. All the activities and the help it provided was so useful. The summer residential was really fun. I hope you enjoy it and don't stress too much about the idea of being on your own

Till now wherever I go (like open days or other uni events), I always go w my frnds but this time they forgot to apply and idk anyone from my college going in this programme. Hopefully the programme will be fun as I've heard quite a lot of good things about it. Also Good luck for your exams

Ah I am sorry to hear that your friends can't make it this time, however, this might be the perfect opportunity to come out of your comfort zone and thrive on your own. It is great sharing these experiences with friends, but equally going into things like this head on and independently is a great way to push you into making new friendships, discovering things for yourself and enjoying time on your own, equally.

I hope you have the best time💖
