Making the Most of University Resources this Exam Season

Hi everyone,

Exam season can be quite a challenging and stressful time, so it is important to reach out for support and take care of yourself. Here are a few resources you can make the most of here at Kingston.

Firstly, if you are not already spending most of your time in the libraries:s-smilie:, they are a great place to study. I find I am much more productive in the library than in my room. You can also book study rooms in the library if you want a quieter study space.

There are also many other places to study on the campuses, as I find it can get a little repetitive going to the same spot. So, try and switch it up by going to the on campus cafes or the social spaces you can find around many campus buildings. Penrhyn Campus now has a range of spaces in the student union where you can go to study. This could also be an opportunity for you to visit other campuses to get a change of scenery. Plus, if you live in halls some of the accommodation sites have common rooms where you can go to study.

Also, for those living in halls look out for the Resident Life Team who are offering free snacks for students to take a break from studying and refuel. The dates they will be at your halls are on their Instagram account @reslifeku

The Academic Success Centre is a perfect resource for any exam or assignment help. They run drop ins at each campus that are specific to that faculty, you can also book appointments or just email them. They offer a range of support such as study skills, research skills, planning and writing in an academic context and presentation skills. You can find more information on your My Kingston portal, along with their online services and other online study support.

Reach out to your personal tutor, they are there to offer you support with your studies so don’t hesitate to reach out or ask questions if you are struggling or just need some advice.

The Health and Wellbeing team at Kingston offer a range of support. One of their services that may be particularly useful during this time are the stress/time management sessions which you can book within the same week and they will help you develop time management skills, assertiveness, new study techniques, and ways to relax.

Often when you feel you only have time to revise/work on assignments you can forget it is also important to take a break from studying and refuel to be able to function at your best.

Ku Extra offer sessions like pilates, table tennis and yoga that can help you relive some stress. The student gym at Penryn Road is also a good place to go and exercise, which can often help you feel more productive.

You may also feel you don’t have lots of time to cook, there are canteens and cafes at the campus where you can go and refuel.

I hope this was helpful and good luck in your exams and studies!

Feel free to ask me any questions 😊
