University of Oxford, Balliol College Community/Vibe?

I'm interested in applying to Balliol College, but I have questions on the community/student life/vibe? From what I've heard that it's insanely competitive (inside), intense, and like a intellectual battlefield? Additionally, I am an international student, so I don't know if that accounts for anything. Is there not much of a community there? Are people really super intense about studies and competition? This is all just from what I've seen online and heard from other people, so I would appreciate ANY insight on any of these questions, or anything in relation. Thank you so much!!

You can make friends with other students at other colleges. So don't worry. Also, you could join a religious society and pray with them and socialise with them as well. Not to mention the endless number of societies and clubs to join at all levels or even start one if you're not happy. 🙂

I have no reason to suppose that Balliol is any more or less intense, fun, competitive, or whatever than any other Oxford college. Most online gossip about colleges is just gossip.

Please bear in mind that approximately one in four successful applicants to Oxford ends up at a college which he or she did not apply to.

Please bear in mind also that the Oxford tutorial system is, intentionally, an intellectual battlefield. If that's not your vibe, don't go to Oxford.
