Hi, I’m Audrey—a recent graduate of the MSc in International Business Economics at City St George’s, University of London. In this post, I’ll take you through my experience as a postgraduate student, what I gained from the programme, and why this path might be right for you too.
📌 Why Economics?
Before coming to London, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Investment Economics. When exploring various Master’s options, I knew I wanted to broaden my knowledge and go deeper into how economies function on a global scale. Economics isn’t just theory—it’s practical and deeply connected to the real world. It helps explain how countries interact, how markets behave, and how policies shape our everyday lives. That's why I chose a programme that would allow me to dive into these complexities and gain a deeper understanding of international economic relations, business operations, and government policies.
🔎 My Experience at City St George’s
One of the best decisions I made in my postgraduate journey was arriving early to attend Welcome Week—it made settling in so much smoother. From the first day, the support from both the lecturers and the course officer was excellent. Lecturers held weekly office hours where you could drop in with questions or simply talk through difficult concepts, and staff were quick to respond to emails—usually within hours, even though the official timeframe was three working days.
📈 What I Gained
Beyond academic learning, City St George’s offered me valuable career support, including CV reviews, mock interviews, and career workshops where I connected with alumni, recruiters, and professionals from diverse industries. I also built lasting relationships, and my professors and fellow student ambassador schemes are always happy to support my postgraduate journey.
🎯 Career Opportunities
An economics degree equips you with knowledge and analytical skills that are highly valued in industries like economics, finance and management consulting, multinational corporations, and economic state agencies. My advice? Choose elective modules aligned with your career goals. One of the best things about the City St George’s programme is how flexible it is—you can truly customise it to your interests.
Pursuing a Master’s in Economics has given me more than a degree—it’s given me direction, confidence, and a strong foundation for the future. If you're considering postgraduate study in economics, I hope my experience helps you take the next step.
