Will admissions 'make exceptions' for bad GCSEs if they are irrelevant to your degree

I want to apply for Econ.

My GCSEs are 888776665, which I suppose is okay but not great.

I really regret taking Art and DT because I got a 6 in both. I shouldn't have - I don't know why did. I was never really good at art and I was never great in the workshop. I basically robbed myself of 2 more better grades.

Will I be penalised for this or will universities recognise what the subject is and whether it is actually relevant to economics?

BTW
Predicted 4 A*s this year so I hope that helps my bad GCSEs.

They are not bad GCSEs, as long you have the grades for English and Maths that are required I think you will be ok. I would first look at the entry requirements for the economics courses you are considering. Your UCAS application and A-level grades are much more important than your grades in GCSE DT and Art (they are not bad, they are equivalent to two Bs).

Unis don't negatively mark for poor grades. GCSEs only come in if A level grades are equal and even then, irrelevant grades or worst above a certain number are excluded, depending how each uni makes its assessment.

You should be ok for most unis as long as the 5 isnt a core subject
