Clearing stigma

Has anyone who’s gone through clearing able to tell me what it’s like? I’m terrified that I’m going to fail my a levels and then have to go through clearing, missing out on any bonuses from my original application.

I hope to just get good grades and not have to worry but I’m slightly unsure that’s the case…

If it bothers you that much, then just take a gap year and reapply in September with 5 new choices.

I wish it was that easy, but sadly I can’t take a gap year because of family issues and I’m hoping to go to Glasgow so I’ve already got an extra year of studies (+ deciding to do postgrad at uni), I know my choice for uni and I wouldn’t like to change it, so I’d hope to get in this year instead of waiting another year :/

Hi @Gravity0

I went through clearing and I know it can feel stressful thinking about it however I found the process to be quite simple and everyone I spoke to was really friendly.

My two pieces of advice for now would be:

Research universities and courses that you would be interested in applying to through clearing if you needed to. Having a list of places and their contact details will hopefully help you to feel a bit more prepared for results day.

Try to focus on your revision and doing your best in your exams.

Good luck for your exams and results day! Let me know if you have any questions about clearing!

Hiya @Gravity0,

It’s completely normal to feel nervous about results and Clearing a lot of people do. I haven’t been through Clearing myself, but several of my friends have, and honestly, it worked out really well for them. They still got into great unis and are doing just fine now.

Clearing isn’t something to be afraid of it’s just another route into uni, and there’s no stigma around it. Of course, it’s great to aim for your predicted grades, but if things don’t go exactly to plan, it’s not the end of the world. You’ll still have options.

Let me know if you want to hear more about what the process is actually like happy to help.

Best wishes,
