SFE maintenance loan

Hey, I applied for a maintenance loan, and they gave me the minimum. I currently live between houses with my mum and my nan. My nan is a pensioner, and my mum has a partner, but he refuses to send his income to help me out. Therefore, they gave me the minimum loan. I don't know what to do, and it's stressing me out so much because it's not enough to cover my accommodation. I start university this September, and I'd love some advice!

Does your mum’s partner understand that he isn’t required to support you financially? Just to provide his income information for it to be assessed.
Your nan will never be eligible to be assessed as your household income - SFE regulations are very simplistic.
Are you in contact with your dad? Would he be willing to support your application to have his household income assessed instead? The parent that supports your application doesn’t have to be who you spend most time with right now.

Hi Aoife,

We would require your mums partner to provide their details if they live with your mum. Then we can assess you for the maximum amount applicable to you. As PQ advised, you don't need to be financially dependant or living with them, they are just providing their details so we can assess you for the higher rate of the funding based on their income.

Thanks, Jason
