Uni choices - Leeds or Cardiff

Hi, I’m torn between Cardiff and Uni of Leeds for Law.
Leeds offered me AAB (reduced from A*AA) and Cardiff want AAA. I really liked the Leeds campus and think the accommodation’s better, but I loved the vibe of Cardiff city.
Leeds is ranked higher overall, but I think both are good for Law.
My family are pushing for Cardiff, but I’m honestly so stuck and don’t know which to firm - i want to firm the one i actually want to go to.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Congratulations to your offers.

Don't overly rely on rankings, ranking criteria are not always objective.

Look into the course modules of the unis to see which you like more. Do see whether you are attracted by those modules that are not available in the other uni, e.g. Welsh law, medical law and sports law. In Cardiff, a full module (i.e. module spanning over 2 terms) carries 30 credits, so you have to study 12 full modules for the whole LLB curriculum. In some unis a full module carries 20 credits and so 18 full modules in 3 years. So the credit value of full modules would have implications on study workload and course coverage, it is totally personal preference. I don't know the situation in Leeds.

Spend some time to gather the info and think over it seriously. It is a lifetime decision and certainly worth the effort. Good luck.

Cardiff is going through a financial crisis - yes, all top Unis have hits the skids but Cardiff is worse than most - mass redundancies, courses cut etc, and disruptive strikes planned. Whatever the Uni tries to maintain, this will have an impact on 'student experience'.

Hi! I just accepted my offer to do law at cardiff! I had initially firmed Uni of Nottingham, which similar to Leeds is higher ranked, but I honestly couldn't see myself there and loved Cardiff's vibe much more. At the end of the day this is somewhere you'll me living for the next 3 years so choose where you think you'll enjoy more, I don't think an employer will see too much a difference from a cardiff law student to a leeds law student.

Hi ! Just to let you know if youre in the Leeds widening participation programme, they won't let you keep the reduced grades if you insure them! You may already have known that but I was told otherwise by the uni and the misinformation impacted me! Good luck with your decision!
