Is it possible to change univeritys for second year?

Hi, i am currently at university of Salford studying Software engineering. I have realised i want to switch to cyber security recently and have done a lot of extra work to achieve this. However, I realised i like the modules that MMU have to offer compared to the UoS and I was wondering if it's too late to ask to transfer university's as UCAS applications have closed for the year 2025/2026. I have achieved a 1st in the first term, so i should be on track to achieve a 2:1 - 1st for the whole of my 1st year.

UCAS hasn’t closed. It just shifts to first come first served once the January deadline passes.
If you want to transfer then submit a UCAS application with a reference from your Salford tutor asap.

Hello @rfayepeace,

I am sorry to hear that you are not having the best time at Salford.

I would say the best first course of action would be to contact MMU to see if they still have availability and if they would accept a transfer from our institution to theirs. Once you have confirmed this I would then get in contact with your school office, which would be the SEE school and speak to them about the transition.

They should be able to best advise you on the process.

Best of luck with it all.

Hi @rfayepeace

We are currently still accepting late applications to our BSc (Hons) Cyber Security course for September 2025 entry via UCAS. Although we cannot give any guarantee that an application will be reviewed after the UCAS Equal Consideration deadline. You can find more information about late applications is available here.

If you are considering applying for Year 2 of our Cyber Security degree, your eligibility for advanced entry will depend on how closely your previous study at UoS matches Year 1 of the degree here at Manchester Met as we need to be certain that you have the necessary subject knowledge and academic skills to progress onto Year 2 of our Cyber Security degree. Advanced entry applications are always considered individually by the Admissions Tutor and should you receive an offer, we will include an offer condition for your Year 1 results.

Advanced entry applications are also submitted via UCAS. Please ensure you complete the relevant section of the online application which indicates your point of entry i.e. Year 2. You may wish to explain your reasons for applying for a transfer in your personal statement.

You could also consider submitting an application for Year 1 entry.

I hope this helps.
Mel 😊
