Have you gone to their open days? Check out the town there

Hi @dobber25 ,

Congratulations on your offers! 🎉

The first thing I recommend is weighing up what's more important to your personally, then adding in additionally factors to help make your decision. These may include:

1) Pressure 📚️ - Since you have conditional and unconditional offers, this can majorly effect the pressure you feel at exam season. This factor is purely what you feel more comfortable going with, if you want slightly less pressure that's perfectly fine, however if you really want to go for it in exams that's great too!
2) Cost of living 💵 - I highly recommend comparing the prices of accommodations in the each area. The best way to do this by looking at the university owned accommodations and the local private accommodations. You could make a list to compare prices alongside what you could get at particular price ranges (ensuites, volume of people, etc)
3) Distance 🚶 - Would you prefer to be closer to home or further?
4) Modules 📖- Are there different modules taught on the course, if so which course is aligned more closely with your interests. You can look at these modules on the course page of each universities website, additionally the optional modules may be a key point of interest for you.
5) Personal Preference 😊 - I recommend attending a university open/ offer holder day, this way you can feel the vibes of the campus and ask current tutors and students about the course and their experience. The most important part is you feel happy and safe where ever you are!
6) Social Life 💃- When speaking to current students if you do attend an open day, you can ask about their experience in the local area and what the night life is like! Additionally, this is the perfect place to ask so your already taking a step in the right direction! Additionally there may be options on the university website to talk with current students or you could join the universities official Facebook groups and inquire about this. My final recommendation here will be to check out each universities student union page as this should list the current societies and you can see if there are any that intrigue you.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hi dobber25,

Congratulations on your unconditional offer, that's great news and no doubt well deserved from lots of hard work!

Just to reiterate what others have already said in this thread, make sure to make this decision for yourself and to evaluate what it most important for you - there's no right or wrong reason to choose one university over the other, and the best fit will depend on you as an individual.

Consider a balance of the course and academic opportunities available at each institution. How do the modules compare to what you're most interested in? Are there any extra opportunities such as placement years, study abroad, or opportunities to learn a language or other interdisciplinary skills that might enhance your employability? Does the course have particular links with relevant employers, or support for accessing internships and other extra-curricular opportunities. To find out more about this at Exeter specifically, I'd encourage you to use our Unibuddy chat here, where you can filter to message current business and management students at Exeter and see what their experiences are like.

Make sure to also consider the social side of where you're going to be studying to. I'm originally from the West Midlands, and am now completing my PhD at the Exeter University. This means I've got some first-hand experience of living in both regions of the country your listed universities are based in. Would you rather live in a bigger city like Birmingham or Nottingham, or a smaller, more walkable one like Exeter. Is a city or campus university more preferable? Do you have any hobbies, sports or other interests that would lend themselves to being in one place rather than another - for example, going surfing is going to be a lot easier from Exeter than it is Birmingham or Nottingham. How important is it to be close to home, or access to different travel infrastructure like airports or different railway lines?

Ultimately it's a decision you'll have to make for yourself, as only you will know the answer to these questions (and many others beyond!) that will help you to work out which is the right fit for you.

I hope that's helpful, and given you things to consider, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

I'd go to Nottingham. It looks such a beautiful campus, attracts such a variety of people (Nottingham has a high global name), Edurank ranks it best of the 3 for this subject, and Nottingham itself has retained some quirkiness (it's not all chain shops).

Birmingham is close to Nottingham for this subject but it doesn't appear to quite have that local charm of Nottingham and, physically, Birmingham is typical redbrick in the city centre. Nottingham is grand white stone in its own parkland, not far from the city centre.

Much of Exeter's campus looks pretty but it will not have quite the same big city vibe as the other 2 places and, to use a stereotype, business makes me more think of big city.

Hello, have you visited the universities and the towns? If you are unsure, you can often get a 'feel' for a place, so if you haven't already attended open days or offer holder days, I would suggest visiting the universities and having a look around the city too. Hope this helps, Karen 🙂
