I am to study pharmacy but I am worried about career progression and what jobs are available in hospital and industry? What are salaries like and if they aren’t great in the uk should I move to different country for better jobs?

Hi, idk if u want to take this advice from me bc im a gcse student but my brother did a masters in drug discovery and pharmaceutical management from UCL and some students were pharmacy grads. They went on to work for big companies such as GSK, Novartis and Johnson+Johnson! My brother is a brand manager for his company and he basically represents the drug but also does the scientific write up etc. Good luck (side note - what a levels did you choose and what grades are you currently getting? I wanted to do a pharmacy degree after a levels and just wanted to know how i need to progress)

Hi,
Pharmacy has many different career paths you could go into such as hospital, community, GP practice and the pharmaceutical industry. In hospital pharmacy, you can work in different departments and even specialise in areas such as oncology, paediatrics etc through further training. Community pharmacy is the more traditional route, while GP pharmacists work in surgeries doing medication reviews and clinics. Once we qualify, pharmacists are now independent prescribers, which opens up even more opportunities. The pharmaceutical industry is another option, with roles in research, regulatory affairs and drug safety.
There’s lots of flexibility with the degree, and plenty of opportunities to develop and specialise depending on what interests you most. If you’re unsure which path to take, try to get some experience in different areas during placements or volunteering. This will give you a better idea of what you enjoy and where you may want to specialise in. Also, don’t be afraid to ask qualified pharmacists for advice, most are happy to share their experiences and can give tips about progression and training.
