Will unis care about my TikTok page?

Hi I am in year 12 taking A level maths, further maths and physics and applying to uni this year probably for pure maths. Last year I got 99999999999A on my GCSEs and I started a TikTok page giving out advice on how to revise and prepare. I also sometimes make posts about maths I find interesting and post my solutions to questions. The page has around 14k followers although I’m not sure if that makes a difference. Is it worth including on my personal statement or is it irrelevant?

If it’s something your passionate about then it could be a great talking point on your personal statement, seeing as it’s relevant to your subject, but also demonstrates additional skills that have been enhanced through content creation. It would be a good idea to emphasise the mathematical aspect of your content to make it clear to admissions officers that it’s a supercurricular and not just an extracurricular.

Hi @jacob165

I personally think this could be a great addition to your personal statement. It sounds like your content would relate back to your potential degree choice, even as you're talking about revision more generally, as it is still study focused. I also think that not many other applicants will be doing something like this, so this will make your statement more unique and specific to you.

If you choose to include it in your statement, I would keep it concise to one or two sentences, and you could also highlight that you make maths content if this is the degree subject you choose. And you can also highlight your content creation ability as an additional skill you've developed.

Good luck with your application! 🙂

Hi @jacob165 ,

I think creating content around the subject you love is a great thing to include on your personal statement!

As others have stated, keep it short 🤏 and use it to further show your passion for the subject 🌟. I think this is a great way to set your personal statement apart from others as it's a very unique point! Additionally, it is a great way to show your interest in furthering your skills in maths alongside transferable skills you have leant from uploading content. If these skills link into your subject you could briefly touch on them too if you wish.

Good luck with your personal statement, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hey,

I definitely think it's something worth talking about, you can word it in so many different ways. You could even link it to the subjects you’re studying, which would make it even more relevant. I think it's really cool that you're sharing advice with others too, it shows a lot about you and the way you think.

It's such a great topic for discussion. You could mention why you started the TikTok page, what the best part of it has been so far, and if any opportunities have come from it. Stats are a nice bonus if you feel like adding them, but honestly, what really stands out is that you're showing universities a different side of you, your communication skills, your confidence, and your passion for the subject, but in a fun and relatable way.

If you can, maybe tie it into something you've learned in maths too- like a concept you explored or something technical you picked up, even if it's small. I wouldn't focus your whole personal statement on it, but I’d treat it like a passion project or an extracurricular.
Congrats on 14k, that’s amazing! I really hope it keeps growing 🙂

Wishing you all the best with your studies!

Hi Jacob!

I would 100% include this on your personal statement!

It's something unique to you and will help you stand out amongst the thousands of other applicants

Uni's are very used to seeing bog-standard applications and very few, if any at all, would of been able to say this on their personal statement, so definitely go for it!

Like others have said, it shows your passion, which is something that uni's want to see 🙂

Best of luck!
