Nursing Degree Placement Time Frames

Hi all. I’ve been offered a place at Edge Hill University in September to study Mental Health Nursing. I appreciate different unis may do it differently but I was just wondering when your first placement normally starts and if there is flexibility in how you complete your hours.

I’m part of a drama group and we perform a pantomime every night the first week in December every year. Obviously this wouldn’t be possible if I have no control over the hours at placement. I have been involved in the society for the last 7 years and would love to continue if possible.

I know it may seem early to be thinking about this but we audition in two weeks and there’s no point in me doing the audition if I won’t be able to commit in December.

I’m finding some conflicting advice online. Thanks in advance.

Contact edge hill for confirmation about dates probably the best thing you can do atp. Placement hours are usually negotiated with your placement assessor or ward manager.

Hi @jkmather1,

Students don't usually go out on their first placement until they have completed between 10 and 20 weeks on their course. Further information about placements can be found on our Nursing and Midwifery Placement FAQ here.

If you send us an email to [email protected] we will be able to put you in touch with the placement team.

I hope this helps
