UCAS predicted grades help???

hi everyone
i just wanted some advice about ucas predicted grades!!))

at my school they're really strict with predictions. you have to have been consistently getting a/a* throughout the year to be predicted an a* at the end. the problem is, i'm a student who progresses upwards - my grades have been improving steadily since the start of the year.

we have mocks coming up in about a month (they cover most of the as content and a bit of a2) and i’m hoping to do really well. but apparently even if you get an a* in your mock, my school still won't guarantee giving you an a* prediction. they take into account every test you've done across the year, even from the beginning of year 12 when i wasn't doing as well, which feels a bit unfair.

i'm applying for medicine so i really need those a* predictions. i'm just super worried about predictions because of how my school does things.

has anyone else been through this? any advice? cause atm it feels like ive been set a max ceiling on what i can achieve in my mocks cause regardless they may not give me what i get

thanks so much

1.

Every school has its own proves for determining predicted grades - Year 12 report grades, Mock exams, teacher intuition etc. This is therefore something only you can negotiate within your own school.

2.

Not all Med Schools want or prioritise A* grades. Many are very aware that some schools deliberately over-predict in order to 'game' the Admissions system. Bristol, as one example, now selects all those who meet their minimum requirements, and then looks only at their UKCAT score to determine who goes through to interview - ie. A* grades give no advantage at all, its your UKCAT score that counts.

What if I'm aiming for unis with A*AA as their entry requirements?

I'm in a similar situation, and concerned especially for my Chemistry grade. My chemistry teacher claims she never predicts students A* grades unless they get them in most tests, and I average A. My solution to this is my UCAS / careers advisor, who explained that he'd be willing to bump any teacher predicted grades up by one (as long as it's realistic) in order to meet uni requirements and provide a competitive entry. Do you have a similar figure you could consult?
This is great preparation for becoming a doctor.

You need to do thorough research including getting advice directly from universities about how they score applications.

You need to hone your diplomacy and listening skills in order to understand what the barriers are to the predictions you want.

You need to use your problem solving skills to come up with a solution that suits you and your school.

You need to use your influencing and communication skills to try to convince your school that your solution is feasible

You need to build your resilience in case none of this works (or it does and you still don’t get offers on your first attempt) and you need to pick yourself up and have a productive gap year while reapplying.

Yes same with my chem teacher! Ooo I need to figure out who puts in our predicted grades at the end, I'll check with my school and see!

Thank you!!I was thinking I could ask whether my predicted grades could be conditional based on my progress in year 13, for my UCAS grades to reflect what my mock grades are and then if my grades drop, they can drop the internal school predicted grades too.
