how long is everyones critical essay roughly? i have put less quotes in my essay overall with more analysis but apparently you get marked down if your essay is too short/not enough quotes. how true is this?

Hi - Im doing Macbeth for the critical essay and my practice essays have been around 1000-1100 words. I typically to an intro, conclusion and 4 main body paragraphs. As for quotes, I think at least 2-3 per paragraph so you have enough to talk about. Also, if you don't have quotes, you can use references to the text as these count. I haven't heard of anyone being marked down specifically for not having enough quotes, but it's important to have a good balance of quotes and analysis in your essay as these are both on the marking grid.
