Hey there,

My name is Siobhan and I’m a third-year student at the University of Central Lancashire. First of all, I'm sorry to hear you’re having a hard time right now, you’re definitely not alone in this though so try not to panic too much!

I remember being in your spot right when I was in sixth form and I completely understand how easy it is to spiral, but I want to reassure you that this is not the end of the road and there’s so much you can still do!!

You’re clearly working really hard, and you should be really proud of your resilience as that is admirable to have 😊 In terms of the next steps, here’s somethings that might help:

Speak to a career advisor if your school has one: I remember I had to drop Chemistry because I was getting consistent U’s in it and from speaking to my career advisor, I was able to discuss other options with the grades I still had and if any other uni would accept me. I would take full advantage of this if you have the option because they will know a lot more than you and I.

Clearing: With your grades not being what you hoped, clearing is always an option. That means you might still be able to go to a university this academic year, but this will depend on what is out there right now.

Prioritise your health: I completely get how overwhelming it must be for you right now, but it is so key to make sure your health is maintained. You might benefit from speaking to someone or taking time for relaxation. Working hard can be really good but also very draining, so make sure you’re not burning yourself out.

I hope this has helped, and please let me know if you have any more questions 😊

Hello there!

Honestly, you are not alone! So many people are feeling the exact same way.
It is tough when you are putting in the effort, sacrificing your hobbies, and still not seeing the results you want. It’s okay to feel upset about that.
But honestly, even if it doesn’t feel like it now, the work you are putting in is building skills and knowledge.
You are stronger than you think for even getting this far under the pressure.

Take small breaks if you can, even 10 minutes here and there to breathe, because burnout will make it even harder to push through.
You’re doing everything you possibly can, and that’s all anyone can ask of you.
You are closer to the finish line than you realise, and there are still options and ways forward. You are not stuck!

You've got this!

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Hi there,

it is great that you are driven and doing as much as you can regarding revision. if you fit all the admissions criteria for a contextual offer, I would suggest emailing admissions and asking on what exact basis was your application for a contextual offer rejected. Secondly, have you considered a foundation year? this is an extra year on top of your degree, and the entry requirements are lower.

If you have any more questions, please reach out!

Thanks so much, I have emailed and asked why I didn't receive a contextual and they told me it was an algorithm and I didn't need it (which I find odd because I matched everything apart from being care experienced). Is a foundation year the one you can't get funding for?

I think it would be a good idea to ask for a better explanation - you matched all requirements apart from being care experienced, so why can't you obtain a contextual offer?

A foundation year is integrated as part of your degree, and you can obtain funding for this I believe through SFE. For example, a chemsitry degree (Including foundation year) at Kingston University requires 64 UCAS points.

I hope this helps!
