Postal Application queries

Hi - hoping for a bit of clarity.

I'm looking to start my degree in September as a mature student. I went to uni some 20+ years ago for a year but dropped out due to various circumstances. I had one year of fees etc. and have had the 'bonus year' explained to me.

I've spoken to a brilliant adviser at SFE who went through my account details and while she could access the account it's so old it was caught in a bit of a system glitch. She advised me to apply via post in the mean time as she couldn't be too sure when the full account would be unlocked, directed me to the forms etc etc.

I've submitted a paper copy of the application last week, delivered Friday. Should I see this status reflected in my (now unlocked) online account at some point, and if so, when?

Further to this I am a single parent with an under-10 child. I will be leaving my current job to take up my studies but will be applying for Universal Credit to assist and seeking whatever Parental Learner Allowance and Special Support Loan I can get as well as working part time. I have supplied my rental agreement of my home address (solely in my name) as evidence of my separation. Will all of this be on the statement of the loan I can get? Basically I want to be as sure of my financial situation as I can be ahead of accepting a university offer (assuming I decision comes back in time!).

Thank you.

Hi John,

Applications take 6-8 weeks to process. So do keep an eye on your account for this updating. On your application, did you apply for the grants? If so, you'd need to upload all pages of your most recent child benefit, universal credit or tax credit award letter (in your name) naming the children and copies of their birth certificates - this will then assess you for the grants. Thanks, Jason

Hi, thanks for the reply. No problem, I was hoping there was a 'pending' or 'submitted' option just to reassure me that it was all going through but will keep an eye.

Regarding the application, I'd ticked the box in the Grant and Adult Dependent section that I would like to apply for it. Don't recall anything specific to the Special Support Loan but have added my childs details. I didn't want to send the original birth certificate as supporting evidence for obvious reasons so good to know I can upload once it's on the system. My child living with me full-time is a recent change so I've only just started a UC claim for support with her so can do this too. Thanks Jason, really appreciate it.

Hi John,

For the special support loan you'd be assessed for this once your evidence is processed and will be determined your eligibility. Thanks, Jason

Apologies for bumping this. I have been advised before submitting my postal application that the rental agreement for my home address (which is solely in my name) will be sufficient evidence of my separation at this time. However my application is asking for evidence and will only accept a decree nisi or conditional order - neither of which I have. I do have (as stated) the lease agreement and supporting council tax bill with single occupancy discount applied. Could somebody please advise?

Hi John, you are still able to provide the tenancy or mortgage agreement and 2 different utility bills as proof of separation, these are an option if you are unable to provide the more formal documentation such as the Decree Nisi or Conditional order. Postal applications once received are currently taking an estimated 9 working days for scanning and data entry, before these may appear in the online account, but once visible, you will be able to see any next actions, application updates. Thanks, Stephen.
