Switching from econ to maths course

I have an offer for Warwick econ but I want to change course to maths at Warwick. Does anyone know if this would be possible if I firmed Warwick and called them on results day asking for a course change. How likely would it be to be allowed onto the maths course?

Nah I don't think so. Warwick Maths has quite a large bar for entry even for people who actually applied for it like TMUA and shi.

If you want to change it, send an email to admission as soon as possible. I changed my course from English to Maths only a week ago, so there’s still time to change. If you are 100% you want to change, let them know as soon as possible. Find out whether you just need to change your student finance application’s course or if you would need to reapply or go into clearing. Even if you choose not to change courses, it would still be quite good to know.

Do it. Maths opens so much more opportunities.

What subjects do you do and what are you predicted?

I’m predicted A*A*B, and I’m doing Maths, History and Physics!

That’s really good, did they not say anything about further maths or admissions tests when you emailed them. I’m predicted 3 A*s in maths, further maths and econ and want to change to maths and statistics but I’m not sure if they will ask me to take an admissions test.

Sometimes you don’t need to do an admissions test if you have contextual offers! I do have FM, but honestly was thinking about dropping it. It’s a bit too late now however. Check if you would get contextual offers (some Uni’s have a survey of some sort). I’m pretty sure FM is a must. I would always just email them.

Did the maths offer require an A* in further maths along with the A* in maths?

From what I remember, the grade requirements were lowered by two grades for me. I don’t think FM was part of that, it might have been, but I’m not too bothered on if it’s an A or A*. If you have a contextual offer, they most likely keep the amount of grades your offer is lowered by the same. However, it depends on the grade requirements for Econ. So if you’re requirements were AAB, lowered to ABC and if you change to Maths which may be A*A*A, then your new offer should be AAA. (If they decide that). On my UCAS, the grade boundaries don’t show (they’re just symbols because they changed the course). I’m not sure about the admissions test, you might have to reapply. It depends on your circumstance, but if you are thinking about it, I would message admissions as soon as possible to clarify what exactly you would need to do if you wanted to!
