Unsure what to to put as an insurance for pharmacy (same grades )

I applied for pharmacy at Kingston, Medway, Reading, Brighton, and Hertfordshire, and they all require ABB. I am planning to put Kingston as my firm choice. However, if I get rejected from my firm, does that automatically mean I will also get rejected from my insurance choice?

Not necessarily - because it depends on whether you Insurance would be more likely than you Firm to accept you with lower grades..

Hi there @Noname60 ,

From my experience, if you have the same grade requirements for you firm and insurance, there is a chance that could cause complications. This is unique to each university as it typically depends on spaces on the course and other factors.

In order to find out more, I would contact the universities and enquire, as some courses may be more flexible than others. If they say they accept slightly lower grades, that could make them a potentially safer insurance choice 🙂

No University will commit to this before Results Day - simply because at this stage no Unis have any idea how the A level results will go, how many Firm applicants will make their offers, what spaces they then might have on any specific courses and which lower grades they might accept to fill them.

Medway, Reading, Brighton, and Hertfordshire
Medway and Herts are less competitive Unis overall than the other two BUT read my initial comment above - there are no guarantees about this. I'd advise you to simply pick the Insurance Uni that you prefer, and then work your socks off to get the grades you need for Kingston.

Hi there,

as all grades are the same, it is likely that if Kingston reject you, your insurance may also do the same. Universities are not told which uni you have put as your insurance or firm choice, and the decision is only made on results day (at least when I did mine back in 2020!)

I suggest contacting admissions of your insurance choice, and going from there. Work as hard as you can to make ABB for your Kingston and we look forward to welcoming you!

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

Well the average entry tariffs are Kingston 123 points, Medway 128, Reading 130, Brighton 143 and Hertfordshire 120. If it was me, I would be looking at the safest option as the Insurance, which would appear to be Hertfordshire.

None pf this will tell you anything about what any of these Unis might accept this year - nor will it tell you what grades you are going to achieve..

But it gives you an indicator on which to base decisions rather than pick blindly!

It is the only uni I can apply to in London and the closest one to me

Hi there
I suggest Brighton. My two children, one of them, studies and then graduated in accounting accounting last summer and now working there. My daughter will enter her final year in medicine. The city is great weather and full of life. They are both going to settle down in their own future lives there. The fresh air and the beach, especially in the summer time, is a wonderful experience.

Hi @caichal

I understand this question was for the OP, but I have done a post answering this question before that I thought might be useful:

As above, they won’t know until they review the results of other offer holders this year.
