St andrews vs Durham for biology

I have recieved offers to study biology/biosciences at durham and st andrews and I don't know which one to pick. I really liked the course in st andrews, and felt really excited about biollogy after the offer day, but I thought the town felt kind of miserable and it's really far away from my family. I love the city of Durham, and I like the college system a lot, but the course felt kind of underwhelming. The open day course presentation at durham was pretty much what I read on the website, where at st andrews they had some students talk about their experrience as well and it seemed more exciting.

I'm also not sure what area of biology I want to go into. For my undergrad I'm getting a generic bachelor of biology degree, but so far the areas I like the most are: botany, ecology and conservation, maybe genetics, and potentially marine but I don't have any experience with it. It seems like durham is better for botany and maybe genetics, while st andrews is better for marine and ecology, but I haven't really talked to anyone who is studying biology at either school so any input would be helpful.

i had to choose beween St andrews and Durham for biology a few years ago seems like durham is better for botany and maybe genetics, while st andrews is better for marine and ecology 'seems like durham is better for botany and maybe genetics, while st andrews is better for marine and ecology' this is true but then it doesnt really matter because i really liked getting to dabble in the marine biology side of things in first and second year while focusing on my virology interest later on

other way round - Durham is a nice but working class city whereas St Andrews is a beautfiful medieval middle class town and the collegiate system in Durham is fake, they are just glorified student halls

St Andrews is far away which makes it a pain to get to and from but the sense of isolation is part of the experience

go to Durham if you don't want to do 3 subjects in your first year!

St Andrews. it's a totally unique university experience but Durham would have been a great choice as well
