Hi Anonymous,
Congratulations on your offer to study psychology here! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get to attend the Offer Holder Day, but I hope I can answer your questions and clear some things up for you.
Normally, during Offer Holder Days, you would explore Streatham Campus and the accommodation options, as well as attend some talks led by psychology lecturers. The department talk when my cohort joined the university was about a third-year project looking at early warning signs of dementia through navigational tasks, and they also talked about wellbeing resources available for students.
As you mentioned, the psychology building really is beautiful, and is one of my favourites on campus. However, you won't spend most of your time in the main department building, as with any course - but some classes will be based in there almost definitely. These include your second-year research projects, for instance. And, alongside this, some of the facilities you will have access to include animal labs, a number of MRI scanners, and the training centre for the MSci integrated programme.
I've also heard that the lecturers are brilliant for psychology. My friends have spoken highly about their lecturers for first-and-second-year research methods and/or stats, and have said that they have been excellent at explaining things to you. Some of their favourite modules have been social psychology, animal behaviour, and personality - though all lecturers across the psychology modules are super friendly and available to support you at any and all points.
There are also support classes run by the department certain modules, and in your second year, lots of lecturers offer work experience in the form of taking on research projects, which is an invaluable opportunity.
If you have any other questions about the course, or any aspect of university life here, please do drop a message!
