Driving in bangor

Has anyone leaned to drive while at Bangor University, if so any recommendations and guidance

I can’t recommend driving instructors etc; but I can warn you that there are a lot of steep and very narrow roads if you’re planning on doing your lessons and driving test while there. Bangor town centre is generally pretty walkable when getting around so you don’t necessarily need to know how to drive, although if you want to go to a shop that isn’t the ASDA that used to be a football pitch you would need a car.

Hi!

A lot of students learn to drive whilst studying at Bangor. There are several different driving schools to choose from, so I'd recommend looking into that. The average cost is around £30 an hour, but that varies depending on the company.

I agree with the previous comment - Bangor has a lot of narrow roads and steep hills, which can make it difficult whilst learning to drive. There's also a one-way system, which takes a bit of getting used to and can be a bit confusing for learners! However, there's easy access to a dual carriageway and some bigger roads, making it ideal for learning on a mixture of different roads.

I hope this helps 😊

Hi,

I am a staff at Bangor and not a student, but I did learn to drive in Bangor. I had a great experience learning to drive here and I feel as though I am a very competent driver in narrow lanes and busy roads!

If I remember correctly, a team from the local Council offices responsible for the Pass Plus scheme are usually invited to the Welcome Week fair in September and they are great people to ask questions about driving, the driving test and obviously the Pass Plus scheme.

Good luck with your driving if you do decide to learn while at Bangor
Thanks
