Changing career from mental health OT to clinical psychologist?

Hello,

As a mental health occupational therapist - would I be seen as a good candidate with relevant experience to apply for the DCLINPSY? I also wondered if I required to work firstly as an assistant psychologist?

Academic background - I completed my undergrad in Psychology- then a masters to qualify as an OT.

Thanks guys!

Hi,

I have created a thread where a lot of the general queries around Clinical Psych have already been asked https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7410073

Reference to your specific question, yes it is unlikely that your current experience will be enough. The question I would ask yourself is "am I ready to produce a doctoral level of publishable research alongside work fulltime with a whole range of ages and mental health difficulties and trauma where I will be expected to be largely independent from day one?" If you can answer yes then apply now but if you feel you might struggle then spend the time wisely picking up some more skills. Time spent building these skills is so valuable.
