Student Work Experience and Placement

Hey!👋 I'm currently a Student Ambassador at City St George's University. This is where I help out at Open Days, Applicant Days, and Open Evenings. I give campus tours, talk with prospective students about what university life's really like, and help run different events across campus. I'm also a course ambassador, so I answer questions about my course and get involved in subject talks 😊.

One of the best things about the role is how varied and fun it is- no two shifts are the same. You meet loads of people, build confidence, pick up skills like communication and teamwork, and it's really flexible around your studies. Plus, you get paid for it, which is always a bonus! 😁

On top of that, I did a 10-week placement as part of one of my modules for Data Analytics, which was organised through the university. It was a great chance to apply what I'd learned in class and get a feel for what it's actually like to work in a real organisation. It definitely gave me more confidence about going into the workplace after university👍.

Anyone else thinking about becoming a student ambassador or doing a placement to build experience while studying? 🤔

Heyy! I originally applied to study Sociology with Psychology at University. However, during my first year, one of my sociology modules included a quantitative component. As part of the Q-step programme, if you achieved a 2:1 or a First in that module, you had the option to switch to a pathway that included Data Analytics.

I met the requirement and decided to take that opportunity, so my course is now Sociology with Psychology and Data Analytics. Through this, I've been able to develop skills in handling and managing data, working with numbers, and using statistical software. I also completed a 10-day placement split into 10 weeks with an organisation of my choice, where I got to apply these skills in a real workplace setting. It's been a great way to combine social science with practical data driven experience! 😊
