Between University of Birmingham and university of Sheffield

Hi, I know we can't know for sure but between these unis in the past which ones have a higher amount of places or courses in clearing? (Preferably something to do with finance or sciences). Thank you I pray I won't have to go through it but I'm just planning ahead.

No-one can tell you this in advance - not even those Unis - as it relies entirely on this year's A level results, how many spaces there are (if any) and if the Uni decided to use near-miss applicants to fill them or if they decide to put the course in Clearing to get higher grades.

Many Uni will publish their Clearing vacancies on their websites the evening before Results Day - that will give you the chance to at least write a list of courses/phone numbers in case you do need it.

Be confident in yourself and focus at your exam.

Return to this after the exam. Unis normally open the clearing enquiry in early July. Get prepared so you won't get panic on results day. Good luck.

Just be aware that what is in July Clearing will not mirror courses then available in Results Day. Clearing.
July Clearing is mostly vacancies on hard-to-fill courses or spots for International applicants who already have their results.

Hi Usisolsms,

It's great to hear about your interest in Sheffield.

As others have suggested, it completely depends on how many people accept their courses/get the right grades, so an estimate would be hard to give.

However, from being at Sheffield throughout undergraduate, master's and now my PhD, I know that the university is big on helping more students to come to Sheffield through clearing! 😀

Let me know if you have any other questions about studying at Sheffield! 🙂

Good luck for your exams!

All the best,

Meaning what exactly. You have just stated that it depends entirely on places being available on Results Day.

Sheffield probably has more places in clearing because even though average entry grades are currently identical (74%, according to The Complete University Guide), Birmingham's location makes it easier for more people to reach. (I know lots of Southerners make the journey to Durham and Newcastle but they're different stories - old collegiate university and big party city). And Birmingham is ranking higher overall (11th in the UK, according to Edurank. Sheffield is 13th). Birmingham University has about a fifth more students than Sheffield University though.
