Intercollegiate London halls

Hello, I have been allocated an accommodation I’m not super happy with due to its location (UCL student btw) and I was planning on applying for the intercollegiate halls but apparently we can only apply from August by joining the waiting list and even that isn’t guaranteed- they allocate any spare rooms to those on waiting lists. If not I can withdraw my offer from my current room and redo the UCL accommodation process and apply for intercollegiate halls via UCL but I’ll go to the bottom of the waiting list and again it’s not guaranteed. Does anyone have any advice? Or has anyone had any similar experience in the past?

hiya, are you sure you're not able to apply via ucl's accomm portal to an intercollegiate hall?? i applied to an intercollegiate hall through lse's portal just yesterday. ofc the systems could differ, however.

No personal experience but if you read posts of people who have refused their offers in the past then you will find that UCL will not make you another offer.

Personally, I won't risk it. How bad is the location? You can apply private but it's going to be expensive and might cost you double in some cases or you can wait until September and apply for a room swap which may or may not work.

I already applied for UCL accom ages ago and got an offer at UCL east however I can’t reapply otherwise I’ll lose this accom offer and go back to the bottom of the waiting list.

Yeh I saw they don’t make you another offer which is pretty annoying. The location is at UCL east but I’ll bring studying at Bloomsbury and don’t fancy taking the train twice a day. Price wise though the room is 297 with the travel cost it will amount to the same amount as closer accommodations. That’s why I was looking for intercollegiate but I guess I’ll have to wait till August :/. Unless someone is willing to swap with me 🙏

UCL hasn't offered any post graduate accommodation and like with undergraduate accommodation many postgraduate candidates will be awarded far from their campus in UCL east. I saw that happen to multiple people and they were looking for a swap from Bloomsbury to UCL last year. The issue always happens in the end of award cycle so June - August.

I would say don't lose hope and keep an eye on the student room, Reddit for people looking for swap.
When I tried to swap last year I thought I would find no one even though I was trying to swap in Bloomsbury. I found multiple people in 2 days.

Wait a minute I just thought that postgrads had specific halls like the postgrad only halls such as dt Pancras way?

Sorry! I didn't realise that they have changed One Pool Street to undergraduate only. It was only for post graduates until 2023 and then last year it was mixed.

This is strange, why have they done that? Most PG courses were planned to be conducted at UCL East. I also don't see any accommodation for PG near UCL East. This is really messed up.

However, there are still some undergraduate courses that are only conducted at UCL East so you might find people willing to swap.
